Terrace Farming

Terraces are used in farming to cultivate sloped land. Graduated terrace steps are commonly used to farm on hilly or mountainous terrain. Terraced fields decrease erosion and surface runoff, and are effective for growing crops requiring much water, such as rice. Natural terracing, the result of small-scale erosion, can occur where cattle are grazed for long periods on steep sloping pasture .Terracing is also used for gardening on sloping terrain.

Advantages of terrace farming :-
Ø    Prevents erosion, Allows us to plant on steep slope, and provides more usable land.Gives us a different crop yieldfrom the simple farming.        In this way the mountain land is also used.

Ø    Terrace farming is done when steps are cut onto a hill to grow crops. This form of farming is used in mainly in mountainous areas where the slope of the ground is not suitable for normal farming .
